Tai Chi Cuisine is a Chinese restaurant in Irvine that brings a solid representation of northern Chinese flavors, especially well suited for those looking for authentic breakfast options or a casual lunch with familiar Asian comforts. Visitors here tend to come for the specialized breakfast items like the Chinese savory crepes (jianbing) and pork cabbage buns—dishes that reflect a typical northern Chinese morning, yet with a contemporary touch that caters to local tastes.

The atmosphere inside leans toward lively and practical rather than formal. It’s a spot where you might overhear conversations in Mandarin or Cantonese, adding to the genuine neighborhood vibe. The staff are attentive and helpful, creating a welcoming environment whether you’re dining in or ordering takeaway. This is not a fine-dining experience but a place where food is the focus and portions feel generous.

Outstanding mention goes to their soy bean milk, served hot and unadulterated, which sets it apart from the more commercialized versions common in the area. The jianbing is a clear highlight, with the right balance of crispiness and savory fillings, although some might find the price a bit high compared to what’s typical for this kind of street food. For those who like to explore varied textures and spiciness, the Sichuan-Hunan fusion dishes introduce welcome heat and complexity, with items like the spicy stir-fried pork stomach and chicken gizzards offering something beyond the usual Cantonese-influenced menus around Irvine.

Local diners who appreciate straightforward, authentic northern Chinese breakfast or crave a comforting noodle or dumpling soup will find this place hits the mark. It works well as a casual stop for a morning meal before starting the day or a relaxed lunch spot where you can try several dishes to share. The interior space is modest but comfortably filled during peak hours, making it a lively neighborhood hub rather than a quiet retreat.

Overall, if you’re in the Walnut Avenue area craving Chinese pancakes, pork buns, or traditionally prepared dumplings in friendly surroundings, Tai Chi Cuisine offers a dependable and flavor-forward option that supports exploring beyond the usual takeout menus.

Typical items for north china breakfast. The taste is not impressive but above average imo. The price for the popular item (crispy crepe) is definitely on the high end. $8 for the simple pancake that does not include much fillings, extra $2 or more for each other thing you want to add inside.

Came here for a northern style Chinese breakfast, and it does not disappoint! The food is authentic, and so flavorful. Don't miss out on the soy bean milk, it's all natural, nothing added in unlike most places. The jianbing is definitely the dish that takes the top. The atmosphere is lively, and the staff are very attentive. Definitely will be looking forward to the next time I come back to this neighborhood, so I have excuse to eat again

Food was delicious and large portions. The service was great. They were helpful and provided recommendations. The buns (got the pork one) were delicious. Also got this pork that came with pancake things you could make little wraps. That was so good. Added some of the shredded potatoes in it as well. Very good. Will def be back. Cute place with great service and delicious food.
